December- Holiday Goodies

This one I'm posting a little earlier than I would usually on a holiday themed painting since I realized it could make a fun Holiday/Christmas card and the like.

It's the painting for December from my calendar, "A Man for Every Season."

Last year when I painted "Just a Nibble", which was purely for the humor of it, I had wanted to do a more 'real' version of the gingerbreadman. After I decided to do a full calendar, inspired by the humorous intent of the original painting, I knew this *had* to be one of the ideas included.

I realize it's not so obvious he's supposed to be a live gingerbreadman, but I tried to give the impression with his ginger coloring and the similarities between him and the cookie version in the bottom left corner. I also needed to find a way to oufit him without going full-out nude but still trying to keep within gingerbreadman style. The compromise was an understated ribbon/bow.

I saved this one to finish last because I knew I would get drawn in to painting all the candy goodies. I was right. Although oddly enough with the higher level of detail in this painting than most of my others in the calendar, it actually took among the least time. Go figure.
